A solo bicycle expedition from Portugal to nepal and beyond...

the project

I’m Marcos (aka Gordão), a soul-rebel, bike-enthusiast, passionate for travel and adventure. Also, I am an engineer and dedicated ashtanga yogi on the path of union with the Divine. My roots stem from Brazil and over the past 8 years I have been living in Australia.

Back in 2005, a seed was planted in my heart. I had my first bicycle touring experience with two great friends, travelling 2000 km from Bahia to Sao Paulo, and it was absolutely fantastic!  Ever since, the dream to travel the world by bike has grown and ten years later, the Bike Sutras Project was conceived.

Bike Sutra's is a solo bike expedition, from Portugal to China and beyond! Sutra is a word in sanskrit which literally means a thread or line that holds things together used here to describe the experience of weaving your way through and connecting with people on a bike trip. It also makes a direct reference to the Yoga Sutras (aphorisms) of Patanjali, which I will keep reading and sharing some insights along the way. This trip is a journey of self-discovery and letting go. I am sure this will lead to moments of extreme joy and numerous challenges, but the goal is to experience them all with an equanimous mind. And most of all, I look forward to giving more than I will receive, bringing peace, love, forgiveness, faith, hope, light and joy to all beings on my way.

The Bike Sutra's project has an opening ceremony taking place at Boom Festival in Portugal, only a few days after the trip begins. Then a final celebration will occur, one year later, at Burning Man festival in USA.  After that, who knows, I may come back to “normal life” or continue riding?! Life will tell…
